In June 2027 Canyon Lake resident, USMC Veteran, business owner and father of three Hawks, James Eastland will race his bicycle across the country in an effort to raise $100,000 for the Canyon Lake High School Athletic Booster Club to purchase an electronic scoreboard (Jumbo Tron). His hope is to also raise $5,000 for the JROTC program and also the Cross-Country program.
The race leaves Astoria, Oregon and travels along the iconic Trans America Trail which is approximately 4,167 miles long. Eastland will end the race in Yorktown, Virginia in under 25 days AND THEN turn around and ride BACK TO Astoria, Oregon for a total of 8,300 miles in under 50 days.
The self supported race requires racers to carry all the necessary items with them like tubes, gear, cold/rain weather clothes, food and water and any items they fill which will help them reach Yorktown. When racers run into problems, and they will, they must be resolved without any outside assistance. For example, if they have a flat in the freezing rain and in the cold at 2:00 in the morning climbing over Togwotee Pass at 9,500 feet elevation, tough cookies! No one is there to help you. There’s no van, crew or support. You must fix it yourself. Oh, and watch out for the Bears!
Please help the Canyon Lake High School Hawks have the same opportunity as the other High Schools. Please follow the excitement and news on Facebook Group, “Journey of the Five.” There is a link to donate if you feel that this cause is honorable and that the kids of Canyon Lake are worthy of your hard earned money.
These Booster Clubs are Non-Profits and ALL money donated goes to the kids (minus the fundraiser website’s processing fees.) James is paying for ALL of his own expenses during the journey of the race.
Help the Hawks even the score and have the same opportunity as other kids at other schools! GO HAWKS! 🦅 🚲
